Programs and Initiatives

  • ✓ Health Education and Awareness: LOWON-Liberia promotes health education and awareness by engaging women's groups to address gender-related issues, with a focus on SGBV. The organization educates communities on disease prevention and harmful practices, fostering public health and safety.
  • ✓ Skills Training: LOWON-Liberia has empowered over 80 women, youth, and girls through skills training in tailoring, weaving, carpentry, pastry, microfinance, and the establishment of village savings and loan associations to promote economic growth and financial independence.
  • ✓ Advocacy and Community Dialogues: LOWON-Liberia strengthens community advocacy through training, dialogues, and awareness campaigns on issues like COVID-19 and gender equity.
  • ✓ Land Management Activity (LMA): LOWON-Liberia partners with USAID on Land Management Activity to promote inclusive communal land management and support Liberia’s development strategy.

Objectives of the Organization.

  • To create social stability and awareness on sexual and reproductive health issues, family planning, and other related adolescence issues.
  • Advocate for the protection of Women and children’s rights and provide Legal support at the community level.
  • To advocate for a society whereby children and youth with disabilities have equal rights and opportunities for growth and development.
  • Improved access to education and psychosocial wellbeing of marginalized children and youth.
  • To Promote Vocational training for youth, self – help groups for the grass root empowerment.
  • To promote sustainable livelihoods among youth with community participation. Promotion of women and girls education, promotion of vocational training, and life skills development.
  • To raise awareness about trauma and psychosocial care needs and advocate for policies that support the mental health and well-being of individuals affected by trauma.
  • To design and implement peace-building initiatives that specifically addresses the needs of women and children in conflict-affected areas.
  • To provide capacity-building training to community members and stakeholders for effective and factual dissemination of messages related to women, children, and youth empowerment in society.
  • To empower youth through education, skill development, and opportunities that promote their active participation and leadership roles in the community.
  • To promote sustainable agriculture practices, enhance food security, and support local communities in agricultural development.
  • To facilitate access to financial resources through microfinance and village saving loan programs, aiming to empower local communities economically and promote financial inclusion.
  • To advocate for the rights of women and children, working towards the creation and implementation of policies that protect and empower them.
  • To actively engage in community development initiatives that address the unique needs of different communities, fostering a sense of belonging and self-sufficiency.

To drive impactful change, the organization conducts mass and community meetings to gather input and feedback while empowering local leaders to address key issues. Partnerships with CBOs, CSOs, NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders are established to leverage resources and expertise. Culturally sensitive communication strategies are developed to effectively promote women, children, and youth empowerment, while feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders informs program adjustments. The organization prioritizes diversifying funding sources, including grants, donations, and income-generating activities like agricultural projects and microfinance, while also creating self-sustaining models to reduce reliance on external funding. Advocacy efforts focus on policies supporting sustainable ventures, trauma care, and empowerment at local, regional, and national levels. Programs are designed to be inclusive, incorporating gender-sensitive approaches to address challenges faced by women and girls. Community-led problem-solving sessions further identify and address specific issues faced by the target population.
